Hide format tags? (H1, *text*, /text/, etc.)

Is there any way to hide the formatting tags? I would like to be able to see the text totally plain, i.e. without "H1" before heading 1, the stars before and after bold text, and so on.

If this is currently not an option, could it be an idea for future updates?

Idea: Clicking/Tapping on a note from the sidebar/overview shows it without markdown, clicking/tapping inside the note (starting to edit it) shows it like it is now with markdown.

    Hello,

we have some ideas about how let you see the note without the markup, but right now is not top priority.

    Cheers.

I wish it was a priority. The markup noise detracts from an otherwise great looking editor.

I would also like this feature. I just bought a pro subscription.

Have you seen how the Typora markdown app does it? It hides the markup (while still applying the style) until you move the cursor into that piece of text. Very simple, intuitive and unobtrusive.

+1 For this. The markdown is a distraction/added clutter when simply reading a note! Love how clean the app is otherwise.

For what it may be worth, I give a "-1" to this. For my day-to-day edit/read use, I like having the Markdown visible.

Like any number of options it's something tha should be easy to toggle on or off. I'm just worried that that will necessitate a slideout group of toggles rather than having to make a trip to the settings panel.

I'll throw in my support for this. This is actually the first time I've been willing to try markdown. While it's beginning to grow on me, I still haven't figured out how it's useful. Still need to learn that, apparently. But a WYSIWYG mode would be awesome!

That feature has to go. I am not saying you should remove it, for those who like it, but you should be able to use Markdown and hide those tags. It is literally the only thing keeping me from using this app. It totally distracts from an otherwise clean look.

I googled for the answer on *how* to hide the tags, I never expected there to be no option! Super distracting.

How about a "preview" theme that (nearly) makes the markdown codes invisible? This would add no additional App UX.

I love Alan's idea above: just make a new theme that makes the markdown codes invisible or much less visible (text color matches or nearly matches background). No new toggles needed, and easy to switch on and off.

+1... Seriously though, make it a priority
In Preferences, you have an option for "Markdown compatibility mode" just add another option to view without markdowns... Personalization options are what makes good apps great.

I would love this also. All of the markdown tags make the notes hard to read and even more hard to skim. In other words, my notes don't look like notes.

I hope you'll consider adding this option. Thank you.

Love this app so far, but can't justify the subscription unless some kind of toggle is present. Literally the most important feature that's missing.

I just purchased, and then canceled, a pro subscription. While markdown may be a help to some, it needs to be an option, not a mandate. Whether a theme or a toggle, "wysiwyg" is needed for those of us who want to use this professionally. I wanted to move a substantial number of files from Evernote. Can't do it unless there's an option to turn off markdown.
